Fellowship Program

At the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of our hospital, we provide you an advanced clinical training under the permission by the Japan Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare with using the Advanced Clinical Training System. The Orthopedic Department has been accepting overseas training doctors since 1997/ International doctors have come from all over Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Latin America. In addition, there are regular visiting international experts invited to our hospital for intellectual and cultural exchange. The Japan Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has also recognized our Department as a training center for Advanced Clinical Training for International Fellows.
We welcome international fully trained orthopedic surgeons wishing to pursue a fellowship to apply for a position here. Fellows will be exposed to the range of clinical cases and surgeries, and have opportunity to participate in departmental research and teaching. The Orthopedic Surgery Department takes pride to be both clinicians and scientists to contribute to medical development, and provide current medical care to our patients. Our department has many publications published and presented in both prestigious Japanese and International journals and scientific meetings.

The available programs are:

I.Course Abstract

  1. Term: Six (6) months, or one (1) year
    *Probation period: 3 months
    If Ogori Daiichi General Hospital (ODGH) judges that the trainee is not suitable for our fellowship program, ODGH will cancel the contract.
  2. Courses:
    1) Hand, Microsurgery and Brachial Plexus Reconstruction.Fellowship
    2) Joint Arthroplasty Fellowship

II.Conditions

  1. Accommodation will be provided by ODGH. All utility bills and the maintenance fee for the residence will be charged to the fellow.
  2. Travel expenses between the fellow’s country and Japan are not covered by ODGH.
  3. The fellow has a privilege of free travel and accommodation for a single domestic meeting during the period of the fellowship.

III.Qualifications

The Fellow should:
Have a medical license from his/her country.
Have clinical experience with 3 or more years.
Have the sincere intention to return home upon completion of this course.
Meet all conditions required by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
Have a good command of English and/or Japanese.

IV.Documents Required for Application

  1. Curriculum Vitae: One (1)
  2. Three (3) recommendation Letters by the reputable doctors in the respective field of application Hand Surgery/Microsurgery or Orthopaedic Surgery/Joint Arthroplasty Surgery.
  3. A list of publications and presentations.
  4. A brief statement of why the applicant wishes to obtain a fellowship at ODGH.
  5. Certificate of English proficiency (TOEIC / TOEFL SCORE etc. ...).

ⅤI.About Yamaguchi

Yamaguchi prefecture is located in the western part of the island of Honshu. Our hospital is located in Yamaguchi city, Yamaguchi which is the center of prefecturral politics and very convenient for transportation as it is near from Shin Yamaguchi station even from Yamaguchi-Ube airport (takes about 30 minutes by road).
It takes about an hour from Fukuoka and Hiroshima by Shinkansen (bullet train).
There is an old Japanese culture called Ouchi Culture and known as “Kyoto of the west” has developed around Yamaguchi city which can be seen at many places. Also, there are some Instagramable Spots in Yamaguchi.
